The drawer sits at the top and the legs carry it, so 375mm of the 550mm total is open floor you can see straight through — and a room where you can see the floor under the furniture reads bigger than one where you cannot. The wide top, 500 × 400mm, is genuinely useful: a lamp, a book and a glass all at once without stacking. The trade is that there is exactly one drawer and no shelf, so everything beside the bed either goes in that drawer or sits on top in plain view. Timber and veneer both react to the heating season, so a drawer that was easy in September can feel snug in December and free up by March. That is normal. The other thing about legs: check the fixings after a fortnight and again after a few months, and nip up anything loose.
