That sits the top roughly level with the mattress on a divan or a taller upholstered bed, which is the height you want when you are reaching for a glass of water in the dark. On a low platform bed with a mattress top nearer 500mm it will stand proud, and you will see it every time you walk in. At 450mm wide it is a narrow piece, so it fits the gap between a bed and a wall, or an alcove, without taking over. A drawer 344mm from front to back needs roughly that much clear air again to come all the way out, so if the bed sits tight to it you will be opening the drawer halfway for the rest of its life.
