This is not a main chest and it should not be asked to be one: the drawers are 43cm wide and 35cm deep inside, and they come in two depths — 8.9cm and 18.5cm. That is underwear, socks, tights, scarves, ties, jewellery boxes, a watch, reading glasses. A family’s jumpers will not live here. What 600mm buys you is a place a full-size chest cannot go: the strip beside a wardrobe, the end of a run of fitted units, the awkward corner of an alcove. The case is 450mm deep and the drawers are 35cm deep inside, so allow about half a metre of clear floor in front for a drawer to come fully out. When the heating goes on and the air dries out, a drawer can tighten slightly; when the house settles back in spring, it eases again. That is normal in timber and it is not a fault. A new drawer is also stiffer than one that has been pulled out a thousand times — give it a few weeks. If one catches, a household candle rubbed along the runner will usually sort it.
