Five rooms, styled and shoppable — design ideas from our showroom floor, with every piece ready to bring home.
The One Light That Becomes the Whole Room
Most rooms are over-furnished and under-lit. Change one fitting and the whole space changes with it. Here’s the pendant I keep coming back to — and how to use it.
See It Lit In a Real RoomI’ve styled hundreds of Cork homes, and the fastest, cheapest transformation is almost never a new sofa.
It’s the light above your head.
A statement pendant pulls the eye up, sets the mood after dark, and tells everyone who walks in that this room was designed, not just filled.
The Viviana is my showpiece pick — hand-set champagne crystal that throws light like jewellery. But a great pendant only works if the rest of the lighting layers behind it. So here’s the full look.

Viviana 15 Pendant Light Gold/Champagne Crystal
The hero. Hang it over a dining table or stairwell where it can be seen from every angle.

Marietta Grand 21 Pendant Light Antique Brass
Warmer, softer alternative if crystal feels too formal for your room.

Chester 6 Pendant Light Fitting Aged Brass
Aged brass multi-arm — the workhorse over a kitchen island.

Delphine 1 Table Lamp Silver Leaf
Add a table lamp at eye level so the room glows at three heights, not one.
Hang a dining pendant so the base sits about 75–85cm above the table. Too high and it floats; too low and you’ll be ducking. When in doubt, lower is cosier.

How to Make a Small Sitting Room Feel Twice the Size
Small rooms aren’t the problem. Bad layouts are. Five moves that make a compact Irish living room feel calm, open and grown-up.
Get Paul’s Small-Space EditHalf the homes I visit have furniture that’s simply too big for the room — a deep three-seater jammed against a wall, nowhere to walk.
The trick in a small space is fewer, lighter, leggier pieces that let the floor breathe.
An armchair on slim legs reads as ‘less stuff’ even when you’re actually adding a seat.
Pale linen bounces light.
A round coffee table kills the sharp corners that make a tight room feel tighter.
Get those three right and a box of a room starts to feel considered.

Chedworth Armchair Natural Linen
Slim-legged and pale — adds a seat without crowding the floor.

Amalfi Round Marble Coffee Table
A round marble centre softens the room and seats four for coffee.

Teo 3 Floor Lamp Brushed Gold
Lights the corner without taking an inch of floor space.

Altesse Floor Lamp
Slimline alternative for behind the armchair — reading light, sorted.
You can see floor under a piece of furniture? The room feels bigger. Choose legs over plinths, glass or marble over solid blocks, and one round shape to break the grid.

Build a Dining Room People Don’t Want to Leave
The table is where the real life of a house happens. Here’s how to build a dining room for long dinners, not quick ones.
See the Dining Room Paul BuiltA dining table is the one piece of furniture you’ll keep for twenty years, so buy the one you’ll still love when the kids are grown. I always start with solid wood that extends — everyday size for two, full length when the family lands. Walnut brings instant warmth; pair it with chairs you can actually sit in for three hours. Then hang one generous pendant low over the centre to pull everyone into the same pool of light. That’s the whole secret to a room people linger in.

Madrid Extending Dining Table Walnut
Solid walnut that extends for guests — the 20-year table.

Rustique Extending Dining Table 2500x1000x750mm
Bigger, more rustic alternative for a country kitchen.

Artisan Dining Chair
Comfortable enough for the long dinners — buy in fours or sixes.

Marietta Grand 21 Pendant Light Antique Brass
Hang one low over the centre to gather everyone into the light.
Leave at least 90–100cm between the table edge and the wall so chairs pull out and people can pass behind. Cramped chairs end dinners early.

The Calm Bedroom Formula (Better Sleep Starts Here)
Your bedroom should be the most restful room in the house. Usually it’s the most neglected. Here’s the simple formula I use.
Design My Calm BedroomA restful bedroom is mostly about texture and light, not money. Start with an upholstered bed — soft linen instantly makes a room feel quieter and warmer than a hard frame ever will. Then ditch the big ceiling light. Two soft pools from bedside lamps tell your brain it’s time to wind down. Keep the palette to two or three muted tones and resist filling every surface. A calm bedroom is as much about what you leave out as what you put in.

Chic 6' Linen Upholstered Bed Weathered
Soft linen, weathered finish — the centrepiece that sets the calm.

Delphine 1 Table Lamp Silver Leaf
A pair on the bedside tables gives you those two soft pools of light.

Moreto Table Lamp
Warmer, simpler alternative if silver leaf is too much shine.

Barcelona Sideboard
Across the room for storage — keeps surfaces clear, which keeps the calm.
Put your bedside lamps on the warmest bulbs you can find (2700K or lower) and, if you can, a dimmer. Cool white light at night is the enemy of sleep.

Turn Your Patio Into the Best Room in the House
Irish summers are short — so the garden has to earn its keep fast. Here’s how to set up an outdoor room you’ll actually use.
Claim Yours Before SummerTreat the patio like a proper room and you’ll use it ten times more than a few mismatched chairs you drag out twice a year. A six-seater dining set anchors the space the way a sofa anchors a living room — suddenly there’s a reason to be out there. Buy weatherproof so an Irish shower doesn’t end the season, and leave it set up and ready. The gardens I design that get used are always the ones where the table’s already laid.

Ragusa 6 Seater Dining Set
Seats six, weatherproof, ready to leave out all season — the anchor.

Kudde Armchair
Pull one outdoors on dry evenings for a softer lounge corner.

Nautical Floor Lamp
Style note: echo outdoor materials inside with a nautical floor lamp.

Franklin Floor Lamp Antique Brass
Warm brass for the room that opens onto the garden.
Position the set where it catches evening sun, not midday. In Ireland, the after-dinner light is the light you’ll actually be outside for.
