Where it sits on the comfort scale
SOFTER → [ MEDIUM ] → FIRMER
Where you land on this is personal — the Pause sits at medium, with a stitched pillow top, so it’s the softest-feeling of our three mediums.
Who it suits
If you like to settle into a bed rather than lie on top of it, and you sleep on your side or your back, this is likely your comfort level. It’s the one for a guest room that actually gets used, and for anyone who came home from a hotel wondering why their own bed isn’t like that. If you want to feel held firmly from underneath, look at the Mulberry Drift instead.
Made for Mulberry House
The Pause is made in Ireland for Mulberry House, and you’ll only find it here. It exists because of one conversation we kept having in the showroom — “why don’t we sleep like this at home?” — so Paul had it built for exactly that: the floating pillow-top feel of a good hotel bed, on a spring unit that will still feel that way in ten years. It’s made for the way our customers actually sleep, not for a catalogue.
What’s inside it
- 1,000-count pocket spring unit with reinforced side supports
- Stitched pillow top — an extra comfort layer on the surface, for that floating feel
- Polyester, felt and foam comfort layers over a polyester insulator
- Traditionally quilted knitted-fabric cover, with breathable air vents
- 27cm border height
- Non-turn: rotate it regularly, never flip it
- Made in Ireland
Lie before you buy
The body knows. You can’t choose a mattress from a photograph, and you can’t choose one from a spec sheet either — so lie before you buy, at Mulberry House, Ballincollig. It isn’t a test; it’s an understanding. The showroom is at Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork (P31 W968), Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm (closed Sundays). Take your shoes off and stay as long as you like — no appointment needed, and nobody will hurry you. Bring whoever you share the bed with. Get directions.

Living with your new mattress
Your Pause arrives factory-fresh, and like anything handmade it needs time to settle into its new home — give it four weeks, and often more. For the first nights it will feel different from the bed you’ve been sleeping on, and different can feel strange: the pillow top sits higher and softer than you’re used to before it eases into shape. That isn’t the mattress being wrong. It’s your body noticing proper support after years on a mattress that had quietly stopped giving it — and the change feels odd precisely because you’d got used to not sleeping well. Sleep on it every night, rotate it as we suggest, and let the fillings ease and the springs settle around you. Change is good. By the end of the first month it stops being the new mattress and starts being your bed.
Guarantee, delivery & aftercare
Manufacturer-assured guarantee. The Mulberry Pause is guaranteed against manufacturing faults: within the first two years a fault is repaired or replaced free of charge, including transport in the first year; after that, repair or replacement is at the manufacturer’s discretion on a sliding scale with the age of the mattress, and a service charge applies. Ordinary settling of the fillings, and body impressions under the depth set out in your guarantee document, are normal in a handmade mattress and aren’t faults; neither is a change of mind about comfort, which is why we ask you to lie before you buy. To keep the guarantee valid, use a mattress protector, rotate it regularly, and keep it on a suitable base — slats no more than 70mm apart — unfolded, unsoiled and unbent. Claims come through us: keep your receipt, send us photographs, and we deal with the rest. Full guarantee terms.
Your mattress takes around four weeks — and is delivered across Cork and nationwide, or collected from the showroom in Ballincollig at no charge. We’ll confirm your delivery date before you pay.
Any question, any at all: email info@mulberryhouse.ie and a person in the showroom will answer it.
Questions people ask
How do I know which comfort level is right for me?
Lie before you buy. The body knows — ten minutes on a mattress in the showroom tells you more than an hour of reading. If you can’t get in, the “Who it suits” section above is written so you can place yourself honestly — and we’ll always tell you if a different Mulberry mattress is the better fit.
Can I try it before I buy?
Yes — all five mattresses in the collection are on the floor in Ballincollig, Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm (closed Sundays), no appointment needed.
Is it made in Ireland?
Yes. Every mattress in the Mulberry House Mattress Collection is made in Ireland, to our own specification, and sold only by us.
How long does delivery take?
Each mattress takes around four weeks to reach you. We’ll confirm your date before you pay, and deliver across Cork and nationwide — or you can collect from the showroom.
What size do I actually need?
Measure the inside of your bed frame, not the old mattress. A 4′6″ double is 135 × 190cm, a 5′ king 150 × 200cm and a 6′ super king 180 × 200cm; if you’re between sizes or have an unusual frame, email info@mulberryhouse.ie before you order. A 6′ zip-link is two 3′ halves zipped together — handy for narrow stairs and tight landings.
Is a pillow top just a mattress topper sewn on?
No. The pillow top is built into the mattress as its top comfort layer and stitched to it, so it can’t shift or bunch the way a loose topper does. You still rotate the mattress regularly, but you never turn it.
The bed underneath
A mattress is only half the bed. What it sits on changes how this one feels — so choose your base, your drawers, your legs and your headboard, and price the whole bed up yourself before you set foot in the showroom.
