The Ashdown 2 Door Wardrobe is 850mm wide and 1780mm tall, finished in natural, and built from MDF and MDF melamine on an iron frame. Behind the two doors there is one shelf and a hanging rail, in an opening measuring W810 x D500 x H1594mm. Who it’s for

810mm of internal width is one adult’s clothes, honestly told. It works as the only wardrobe in a single room or a box room, as a second wardrobe on the far side of a chimney breast, or as the piece that finally lets the spare room take an overnight guest. It is not a shared main bedroom wardrobe — two people’s coats and shirts inside 810mm will be creased by the end of the first week. The 500mm internal depth does matter in its favour: a hanger sits square across it rather than at an angle, which is what usually goes wrong in a narrow wardrobe.

Measure first

Take the height and the weight seriously on this one. Assembled it stands 1780mm, and the flat box is 75.5kg — two people, and a clear route.

Measure the ceiling where it will stand, then the landing and the turn at the top of the stairs — that turn is where wardrobes get stuck, not the bedroom. Allow around 430mm in front of each door to swing it fully open, and keep the bed or a radiator out of that arc.

A photograph will not tell you how heavy a door feels on its hinge or how the rail sits under your hand. Both are worth ten seconds in person. Living with it

A new wardrobe arrives new and behaves like it. The doors are hung true at assembly, but a bedroom floor is rarely level, and a case this tall will settle into the boards over the first few weeks — if a door starts sitting proud at one corner, the fix is usually the levelling underneath rather than the hinge. There may be a manufactured-board smell for a week or so; leave the doors open for an afternoon and it goes. Wipe melamine with a cloth that is damp rather than wet, and keep water off the panel edges. None of this is a fault. It is what a new wardrobe does.

Delivery, assembly & aftercare

Allow around four weeks from the day the order goes in. We deliver across Cork and nationwide, or you can collect from the showroom at no charge, and the date is confirmed with you before you pay anything.

It needs full assembly and comes in one box. The anti-topple kit is in that box and should go on the wall as the last step, not the forgotten one.

Questions people ask

How much hanging height is there under the rail?
The internal opening is 1594mm tall, and the shelf compartment above takes 310mm of that, so you have roughly 1.27 metres of clear drop.

Will a long winter coat hang without folding?
Most will. Hold your longest coat against a tape at 1.27 metres before you order — an ankle-length coat or a full-length dress will touch the base.

Is it wide enough for two people?
No. 810mm inside is one person’s clothes.

Does it have to be fixed to the wall?
Yes. The anti-topple kit is included and should be fitted, particularly in a room a child uses.

Can one person carry it upstairs?
Not sensibly. One box at 75.5kg wants two people.
