One drawer, 195mm deep inside, and it arrives built.

The Bibury bedside is a single-drawer piece in oak, pine, rubber wood, MDF and rattan, finished natural. It stands 550mm high on 110mm legs, 450mm wide and 400mm deep. No assembly — it comes out of the box finished. It is part of the Bibury range at our Ballincollig showroom, and we can have it out for you to look at. Email info@mulberryhouse.ie for stock & delivery questions, any time now.

Who it’s for

One drawer instead of two sounds like less, and in this case it is not: at 195mm inside, the Bibury drawer is deeper than both drawers of a two-drawer bedside put together. That suits the person who keeps a proper pile of things beside the bed — two or three books at once, a tablet, a wash bag, the small clutter you would rather not see. The height, 550mm, is right beside a bed frame and a little low beside a deep divan, so measure to the top of your mattress. The top is 450 by 400mm, which is a lamp and one other thing. As with any bedside, most rooms want two, and the natural finish with rattan in the mix does not read as heavy when there is a pair of them.

Chosen by Paul

Paul says: “One deep drawer beats two shallow ones nine times out of ten. Everything beside a bed is a different shape — give it somewhere to go.”

What you’re getting

  • Oak, pine, rubber wood, MDF and rattan, natural finish
  • One drawer, W401 × D320 × H195mm inside — the deepest drawer of any bedside here
  • Legs 110mm high, 110mm clearance to the floor
  • 450 × 400mm top at 550mm high
  • No assembly required — it arrives complete
  • One box, 12.8kg

Measure first

Standard bedside footprint. The drawer swing is shorter than most because the box is 320mm front to back.

Dimension mm cm
Width 450 45
Depth 400 40
Height 550 55

Allow about 350mm of clear floor in front to open the drawer fully — less than the two-drawer pieces need, which helps in a tight gap beside the bed. Because it arrives assembled, measure your doorways and the turn at the top of the stairs for the whole 450 × 400 × 550mm piece, not for a flat box.

See it before you buy

Rattan is a material worth seeing rather than reading about — the texture and the depth of the weave do not photograph honestly. A minute with it in daylight, and the drawer open, tells you more than the page can. Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork (P31 W968), open seven days a week, no appointment, and no one will rush you. Not everything in the range is up at once, and we rearrange constantly, so ask for the Bibury bedside and we will fetch it from the store room, or have one in for you within a few days. Living with it

There is real timber in this piece, and timber lives with the room. Through a Cork winter, with the heating on daily, oak and pine give up a little moisture and take it back in spring; a hairline gap that opens and closes with the season is the material behaving normally, not a fault. Rattan wants the same conditions — keep it away from a radiator and out of long direct sun, and dust it with a soft brush rather than a wet cloth. The drawer will feel snug for the first few weeks and then run easily. Because nothing needed assembling, nothing needs tightening either.

Delivery, assembly & aftercare

Allow around four weeks. The delivery date is agreed with you before you pay.

We deliver across Cork and nationwide, or you can collect from the showroom at no charge. One box, 12.8kg.

No assembly. It comes fully built in a single box, which also means the box is bulkier than a flat-packed piece — worth knowing if you are collecting in a small car.

Any question, any at all: email info@mulberryhouse.ie and a person in the showroom will answer it.

Questions people ask

Does it need building?
No. It arrives assembled in one box.

How much does the deep drawer really hold?
W401 × D320 × H195mm inside. Two or three hardbacks stacked, or a hardback with a tablet and a charger on top, or a wash bag standing upright.

Can I clean under it?
There is 110mm to the floor on the legs. A slim vacuum head goes under; a big upright head will not, and at 12.8kg the piece is light enough to lift aside.

What height bed does it suit?
550mm to the top puts it level with the mattress on most bed frames. Beside a divan with a deep mattress it will sit lower than the mattress top.

Is the drawer as wide as the piece?
Close — 401mm of internal width in a 450mm-wide piece, so very little of the width is lost to the sides.
