Nearly a metre and a half wide, and waist high.
The Chic 6 Drawer Chest is the long, low one: six drawers set two across and three down, in mindi ash and veneered MDF, finished in the weathered colour. It is part of the Chic collection, carried at the Ballincollig showroom, where the length of it is far easier to judge than in any photograph. Who it’s for
You need 1470mm of clear wall for this, and that is more than most bedrooms have going spare once the bed, the door swing and a wardrobe have taken their share. Where it fits, it is a great deal of drawer for a piece only 827mm tall — low enough to sit under a picture, low enough to work as a surface at hip height. It is honestly not only a bedroom chest either: at that width and height it makes sense in a hall or a living room, with the drawers doing the job of a sideboard. In a small room it simply does not belong.
Chosen by Paul
Paul says: “A metre forty-seven is longer than people picture. Put a tape on the skirting, stand back and look at it — that’s the whole decision, right there.”
All six drawers are the same size, which sounds dull and is quietly the best thing about it.
What you’re getting
- Mindi ash with veneered MDF, in the weathered colour
- Six drawers, every one the same internal size: 625 × 360 × 120mm
- 120mm inside is about four folded T-shirts stacked, or two jumpers — shirts, tops and children’s clothes rather than bulky knitwear
- Because the six are identical, nothing has to live in a particular drawer
- Legs 110mm high, giving 110mm of clearance to the floor — a hoover head goes underneath
- An anti-topple kit is included. It is fitted to the wall, and in a house with small children that is not optional — a wide chest with six drawers is a ladder to a toddler
- Arrives in one box, 67kg gross
Measure first
Two numbers matter here, and only one of them is the width.
| Dimension | mm | cm |
|---|---|---|
| Width | 1470 | 147 |
| Depth | 510 | 51 |
| Height | 827 | 82.7 |
The width decides whether it goes in the room. The depth decides whether you can use it: at 510mm deep with drawers running 360mm, allow at least half a metre clear in front of the face so a drawer opens fully and your knees are not in the way. Then measure the route in. It is 1470mm long and 67kg, and a hall with a right-angle turn at the end of it is where a chest this length gets stuck.
See it before you buy
Length is the thing people misjudge, and no photograph fixes that. Standing beside 1470mm of chest, with two drawers open at once and the weathered colour up against your own idea of light wood, is a different piece of information entirely. We are at Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork (P31 W968), seven days a week, no appointment needed, and nobody will hurry you. The display here is rotated and a chest this long is not always out, so say the word before you come and we will bring it up from the store room, or have it in for you inside a few days. Living with it
Expect a new chest to behave like a new chest. The drawers are stiff at first and loosen over the first month; timber and veneer both take up and give off moisture with the heating, so a drawer can tighten in midwinter and free itself again by March. None of that is a fault. The weathered colour varies board to board on purpose and settles a shade over the first year, which is why direct sun on one end of a 1470mm chest is worth avoiding. Fit the anti-topple kit on the day it arrives rather than the day you get round to it.

Questions people ask
Are the drawers really all the same?
Yes — all six are 625 × 360 × 120mm inside. There is no small top drawer and no deep bottom one.
Is 120mm deep enough for jumpers?
For one or two folded flat, yes. For a winter’s worth of heavy knitwear, no.
Does the anti-topple kit come with it?
It does, and it is fixed to the wall. In a house with children, fit it.
Will a hoover go underneath?
There is 110mm of clearance, so a standard head goes under without you moving 67kg of chest.
Would it work outside a bedroom?
Yes. At 1470 × 827mm it makes a sensible hall or living room piece, with the drawers doing sideboard work.
