Every drawer 200mm deep, and 200mm of leg underneath.
The Craft 5 Drawer Chest is built in oak and oak-veneered MDF in a natural colour, standing 1060mm tall on long legs. It is part of the Craft collection, which we sell through the Ballincollig showroom, and loading a drawer with your own coat is the way to understand what it does. Email info@mulberryhouse.ie for stock & delivery questions, any time now.
Who it’s for
This is the chest for someone with bulky clothes and a narrow room. Every drawer is 200mm deep inside, which is unusually generous, and the carcass is only 450mm front to back, so it takes very little floor for the volume it holds. Height is the thing to think about. The top sits at 1060mm, above worktop height, so it is a poor chest for a child’s room, and if you are shorter than about five foot two you will be reaching into the top drawers rather than looking into them. In a main bedroom for an adult who buys jumpers, it is exactly right.
Chosen by Paul
Paul says: “Two hundred mil of leg under it. That isn’t a styling flourish — it’s the difference between hoovering under a chest and dragging it out twice a year.”
The same 200mm turns up inside every drawer, which is the other half of why we stock it.
What you’re getting
- Oak and oak-veneered MDF, natural colour
- Five drawers in two internal sizes: small at 438 × 362 × 200mm, large at 900 × 362 × 200mm
- 200mm of internal depth in all of them — around six folded jumpers stacked, or a season of heavy knitwear in one drawer
- The large drawers run 900mm across, wide enough to lay a folded coat flat
- Legs 200mm high, so 200mm of clearance to the floor
- An anti-topple kit is included and fixes to the wall. On a chest 1060mm tall with drawers this deep it matters, and in a house with children it matters most
- Assembly is legs and feet only
- Arrives in one box, 60kg gross
Measure first
Height is what surprises people here, not width.
| Dimension | mm | cm |
|---|---|---|
| Width | 950 | 95 |
| Depth | 450 | 45 |
| Height | 1060 | 106 |
At 1060mm it stands taller than a kitchen counter, so check what is on that wall — a sill, a light switch, the underside of a shelf. The 450mm depth is kind to a narrow room, but a drawer still needs its own space: allow around half a metre clear in front so the 362mm run comes out fully. And measure the landing, not the bedroom. At 1060mm tall and 60kg, the turn at the top of the stairs decides it.
See it before you buy
The only way to judge a 200mm drawer is to put something in it, and the only way to judge a 1060mm chest is to stand next to it. Both take about a minute. We are at Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork (P31 W968), open seven days a week, no appointment needed, and nobody will rush you along. We rotate what is out on display, so this chest may or may not be up on the day you come: email info@mulberryhouse.ie before you travel and we will have it out of the store room and ready, or tell you the few days it takes to bring one in. Living with it
Oak is a live material and it responds to the room. Through a first winter with the heating on, a drawer may tighten slightly; through a damp spell it may run a shade slower. Both settle. New drawers are stiff and become easier over the first few weeks as the runners wear in, so do not decide anything about them in week one. Natural oak deepens in colour over the first year, and faster where the sun hits it. Fit the anti-topple kit straight away — a deep top drawer pulled out on a tall chest puts a lot of weight forward. Dust it dry.

Questions people ask
How deep are the drawers inside?
200mm, all five of them. That is about six folded jumpers stacked in one drawer.
Are the five drawers identical?
No. Small drawers are 438 × 362 × 200mm and large ones 900 × 362 × 200mm. The depth is the same throughout; the width is not.
Is the anti-topple kit supplied?
Yes, and it must be fitted to the wall. On a chest this tall, with children in the house, treat it as part of the assembly.
Can I clean underneath it?
Yes — the legs give 200mm of clearance, which takes a hoover head easily.
Is it too tall for a child’s room?
Probably. The top is at 1060mm and the top drawer sits above that line.
