The Eton storage bed is the white frame in the Eton range with one deep drawer built into it, made in 4′6″ double, 5′ king and 6′ super king in MDF, pine and plywood. It is the heaviest bed we make up, and the one with the most storage. The drawer is the part you are actually buying, so it is worth getting your hands on one in Ballincollig before you commit. Who it’s for

This is a bed for a room with no wardrobe space left. The drawer measures 1457 × 576 × 230mm inside on the king and 1757 × 576 × 230mm on the super king — spare duvets, winter bedding and towels, not a token tray. That is the case for it. Clearance to the floor is 28mm, though, so nothing goes under this bed and a vacuum head will not fit beneath it. It wants a flat floor too: a drawer this wide needs the frame level.

Measure first

Depth is the length of the bed. The king and super king differ in height as well as width, because of the headboard.

The 4′6″ double is made in this frame too, but our measurements for it are incomplete and we will not print numbers we cannot stand over — email us and we will measure one and send you the figures. Mattresses are 135 × 190cm for the double, 150 × 200cm for the king, 180 × 200cm for the super king.

The measurement people forget is the floor in front of the drawer. At 1457mm wide it runs across the bed rather than along one side, so it opens at the end of the frame and wants a clear 600mm there. A radiator or an inward-swinging door will block it.

See it before you buy

Living with it

A new drawer is stiffer than one opened a thousand times, and this is a big drawer. For the first weeks it wants a firm, straight pull rather than a casual tug, and it loosens as it wears in. Get the frame dead level before you load it — with 28mm underneath there is nothing to pack it up with later — and re-tighten the bolts at three weeks. A drawer catching on one side is nearly always a frame that has moved, not a broken runner.

Delivery, assembly & aftercare

Allow around four weeks. Delivery across Cork and nationwide, or collection from the showroom at no charge, date confirmed before you pay.

Full assembly is required and it arrives in three boxes rather than two — 117kg for the king, 134kg for the super king. Build it in the bedroom. The bed is a frame sold without a mattress; if you need one, they are at /collections/mattresses.
