The Malvern bedside is the smallest we carry — 320mm wide, 330mm deep, 550mm tall, one drawer, on legs. It comes from the Malvern range and is made from oak, rubberwood, oak veneer and MDF in the natural colour. Who it’s for

This exists for the gap nothing else fits. A box room where the bed has to go against one wall, a small second bedroom, the space between a single bed and a radiator, the return beside a chimney breast — 320mm wide and 330mm deep goes in where a 450mm piece cannot. The height is a normal 550mm, so it lines up with a bed frame carrying an ordinary mattress and sits low beside a divan with a deep one. Be clear-eyed about what a piece this size does. The top is 320 × 330mm: a lamp and a glass, and not much beyond. If you want a bedside that swallows books, chargers and everything you clear off the bed at night, this is not it — look at something 450mm or wider.

Measure first

This is the one piece here where the small numbers are the selling point, so measure the gap properly: at floor level, at the skirting board, with the bed where it will actually live.

The warning that belongs to this piece is about the drawer rather than the room. At 190mm across inside, it is narrower than the table front suggests. Take a tape to the things you keep beside your bed before you order — a book, a tablet, a reading light — rather than assuming they will go in, because everything that does not fit ends up on a 320 × 330mm top, and that fills quickly.

See it before you buy

Scale is the thing screens get most wrong. A small table photographed beside a bed looks like every other bedside until the real one is sitting at knee height in front of you — then you open the drawer and decide whether the size is neat or simply too small for you. Living with it

A narrow drawer wants a straight pull. Take it by the middle rather than a corner and it runs; take it at an angle every night and any short drawer will jam eventually. Like every new drawer it is firmer for the first weeks and then eases. The timber responds to the heating season — drier air in winter, damper in spring — so a drawer that ran freely in autumn can feel tight in January and come right on its own. That is the material, not a fault. Go round the leg fixings after a fortnight; on a light piece it is the legs, not the carcase, that show any slack.

Delivery, assembly & aftercare

Allow around four weeks. Delivered across Cork and nationwide, or collected from the showroom at no charge, with the date confirmed before you pay.

One box, around 10kg, and the only assembly is fixing the legs and feet. Turn it over on a rug, fit the legs with what comes in the box, stand it up. Nothing in it needs a second pair of hands.

Questions people ask

Will a hardback fit in the drawer?
An ordinary novel-sized hardback goes in the 190 × 264mm space, laid with its spine along the longer measurement. A large format book will not.

How much clearance is under it?
355mm. Any vacuum head goes under, and so does a robot vacuum.

Is it too small to be useful?
For some rooms, yes, and we would rather you knew now. It suits a tight gap and a single lamp. With 450mm or more of clear floor, a wider piece serves you better.

How deep is the drawer?
100mm inside, so things lie flat. Nothing stands upright in it.

Would a pair work either side of a double bed?
They would, and two of these use only 640mm of wall between them — which is why people with narrow rooms often take two of these rather than one wider table.
