Who it’s for

At 980mm wide this is one person’s wardrobe, not two — under a metre of carcass does not hold two adults’ clothes, whatever way you arrange it. Where it earns its place is the drawer: 800mm wide, 444mm front to back and 180mm deep, running the full width beneath the doors. If you fold more than you hang — jumpers, jeans, gym kit — that drawer does more work than another half-metre of rail would. The shelves are adjustable, so the inside can be set for folded clothes rather than long ones, and at 580mm deep hangers sit square rather than at an angle.

Built, it stands:

Two things. The height: 1,875mm assembled, and standing it upright needs roughly 1,965mm of clear floor-to-ceiling space to swing it through the tilt. Check the ceiling, then the landing and the turn at the top of the stairs — it comes up in two boxes, which make that turn more easily than a built carcass, but they still have to get there. And the drawer is 444mm deep, so leave at least 500mm of clear floor in front or you will be opening it half way for the rest of its life.

The drawer is the whole argument for this piece, and no photograph shows you how a drawer runs — that is a thirty-second answer with your hand on the front of it and no answer at all on a screen. Living with it

Oak and rubberwood are solid timbers and they move a little with the seasons. A drawer that slides sweetly in August can feel tighter in November when the heating has been on a fortnight, then loosen again in spring. That is the timber breathing, and it is normal. If it does tighten, rub a dry candle or a bar of dry soap along the runner edges and it eases straight away. The natural colour will deepen slightly where daylight reaches it, so try not to leave one door shaded by a curtain for a year.

Questions people ask

How much actually fits in the drawer?
Inside it measures 800 x 444 x 180mm. Think folded knitwear, jeans and t-shirts rather than anything bulky like a winter duvet.

Can I move the shelves?
Yes, the shelves are adjustable. They come set 270mm apart.

Is there a hanging rail, and how long a coat will it take?
Honest answer: the specification we hold lists the drawer and the adjustable shelves, and records no rail height or internal cupboard height. Email us before you order and we will put a tape inside one and send you the figures — from the store room if it is not up that day.

Will it hold two people’s clothes?
No. 980mm wide is one person. Two adults sharing want a wider carcass or a second wardrobe.

Does it need fixing to the wall?
Yes. The anti-topple kit is included and should be fitted to the wall.

How much floor space do I need in front of it?
About 500mm, so the 444mm drawer opens fully.
