The Malvern 3 Drawer Chest is the compact piece in the Malvern range, built from oak, rubberwood, oak veneer and MDF in a natural colour. It sits low to the floor and takes less wall than almost anything else we carry. It and the nine-drawer Malvern both come through the Ballincollig showroom, and seeing the two together is the quickest way to settle between them. Who it’s for

820mm wide and 760mm tall is a small chest and should be bought as one. It is right for a single room, a spare room, a child’s room, or as a second chest on the other side of a bed where a full-size one would crowd the walkway. It is not the main chest for two adults — three drawers at 147mm deep will not carry a shared wardrobe’s overflow, and pretending otherwise is how people end up disappointed. At 440mm deep it suits a room where the door swing eats the floor.

Measure first

Small in every direction except the one in front of it.

The drawer runs 344mm front to back, so allow about 450mm of clear floor in front of the face to open one fully and stand at it. In a single room with a bed along the same wall, that gap is usually the deciding measurement rather than the 820mm width. The 50mm clearance underneath is the other practical number: you will be moving the chest to clean under it, and at 42kg that is manageable — but do it empty.

Living with it

Oak and rubberwood both take on the moisture in a room and give it back again, so a drawer can feel tighter in a heated house in January than it did the day it arrived. That is the timber doing what timber does, and it reverses. New runners are stiff for the first few weeks and then they are not. The natural colour warms slightly over the first year, more in a bright room, which only matters if something sits permanently on the top and shades a patch of it. Clean it dry and keep it clear of a radiator.

Questions people ask

How big are the drawers inside?
All three are 716 × 344 × 147mm. There is no shallow top drawer and no deep bottom one.

Is it enough for one adult?
For a single room or a spare room, yes. For two people sharing a chest, no.

Can I hoover under it?
No. There is only 50mm of clearance, so you will be using a flat tool or moving the chest.

Does it come with an anti-topple kit?
One is not listed with this chest. If wall fixing matters to you, email us before you order and we will confirm the position rather than guess.

How much room does an open drawer need?
About 450mm in front of the face — the drawer runs 344mm and you need to stand at it.
