The Malvern bed is the frame in the Malvern range, built from oak veneer, MDF, rubberwood and iron in a natural, light-wood colour, in 4′6″ double and 5′ king. What sets it apart is length: 2160mm for the double and 2260mm for the king, well beyond what the mattress alone needs. Who it’s for

This bed needs length more than width. At 2260mm the king is over two and a quarter metres end to end, so a 3.5m room leaves 1.24m of floor beyond the foot of the bed and a 3m room only 740mm — a walkway, not a space for a chair. Measure the long dimension of the room first. The 1420mm double is the narrowest double in the range, which suits a second bedroom with length but not much width. It does not suit anyone with under-bed plans: there is 80mm beneath this frame, the least of any bed in the range.

Measure first

Depth is the length of the bed, and on this frame it is the number that decides everything.

Mattress sizes are 135 × 190cm for the double and 150 × 200cm for the king; the bed is a frame sold without one. The extra length sits beyond the mattress, so if the room is tight at the foot of the bed the king is wrong here even where the width allows it. The side rails are the long items on delivery day, over two metres in the box, so the stair turn matters more than the floor plan.

See it before you buy

Length is hard to picture and impossible to photograph. A bed 100mm longer than the one you own looks no different in an image, but you feel it every time you walk around the end of it. Living with it

This frame mixes iron with rubberwood and veneered board, and the two settle at different rates. The metal fixings hold; the timber around them gives a little as the bed is used and as the heating dries the room out, which is why a bolt that was tight at assembly can be turned again three or four weeks later. Do that, and re-seat any slat that has worked sideways while the mattress is off. It is ordinary maintenance on a new bed, not a fault, and it is what keeps a frame this long from creaking at the middle of the rail.

Delivery, assembly & aftercare

Allow roughly four weeks. Delivery across Cork and nationwide, or collection from the showroom at no charge, and we confirm your date before you pay.

Full assembly is required and it comes in two boxes — 75kg gross for the double, 80kg for the king. Build it in the bedroom; a frame this long is awkward once together. If you need a mattress to go on it, ours are at /collections/mattresses.

Questions people ask

Why is it longer than other beds of the same size?
The frame extends beyond the mattress at head and foot — 2260mm end to end on the king against a 200cm mattress.

Will anything fit under it?
Very little. Clearance to the floor is 80mm, so this is not a bed to plan storage around.

What mattress sizes fit?
135 × 190cm for the 4′6″ double, 150 × 200cm for the 5′ king.

How narrow is the double?
1420mm across, the narrowest double in the range — useful in a long, narrow second bedroom. The headboard is 1100mm high, the footboard 320mm.
