Long, low, and only 700mm tall.

The Milano 6 Drawer Chest is the lowest chest in this group — 1345mm across and 700mm high, in oak, oak veneer and MDF. It belongs to the Milano collection, and the proportion of it is the thing to look at in the Ballincollig showroom. Email info@mulberryhouse.ie for stock & delivery questions, any time now.

Who it’s for

700mm is below the sill of most windows, and that is the argument for this chest. Where a taller piece would block light, this one sits under the glass and keeps the room open. It needs 1345mm of wall to do it, so it belongs on a long unbroken run rather than the gap between a door and a corner. It is honestly a living room or hall piece as much as a bedroom one — at that height and length it works as a low sideboard. The limitation is depth: the drawers are 310mm front to back, so this is a chest for the everyday layer, not for bedding or winter coats.

Chosen by Paul

Paul says: “Seven hundred high means it lives under a window without taking the light. Measure your sill — that’s the number that decides this one, not the floor.”

It is the only chest here low enough to make that promise.

What you’re getting

  • Oak, oak veneer and MDF, in an oak colour
  • Six drawers in two internal depths: four at 601 × 310 × 116mm and two shallow ones at 601 × 310 × 77mm
  • The two shallow drawers are the practical ones — 77mm takes socks, underwear, chargers, jewellery and paperwork, the things that otherwise end up on top of the chest
  • The four at 116mm hold about three folded T-shirts stacked, or a pair of folded jumpers
  • 601mm across inside on every drawer — two banks of three, side by side
  • 310mm front to back inside, shallower than most, so a large folded coat will not lie flat
  • Assembly is legs and feet only
  • Arrives in one box, 64kg gross

Measure first

Take the height to the window and the width to the wall.

Dimension mm cm
Width 1345 134.5
Depth 450 45
Height 700 70

1345mm is a long piece of furniture and 700mm is a low one, and together they mean it wants a clear wall rather than an alcove. Check the sill height first. The drawer runs 310mm front to back, so about 400mm of clear floor in front of the face is enough to open one fully — less than most chests here, because the drawers are shallower. Getting it in is the harder part: at 1345mm long and 64kg in one box, measure the hall and the turn.

See it before you buy

Low, long furniture is the hardest kind to judge from a photograph, because nothing in the picture tells you how it sits against a real wall — or how a 77mm drawer feels in the hand next to a 116mm one. Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork (P31 W968), open seven days a week, no appointment needed, and nobody will hurry you. We move the floor around constantly, so ask for this chest by name: if it is not out when you arrive, we will bring it up from the store room, or have it in for you within a few days. Get directions

Living with it

Six drawers built in two depths will not all feel the same in the hand, and the shallow 77mm ones run lighter than the deeper four. That is normal. All of them are stiff for the first few weeks and loosen as the runners wear in. Oak reacts to a heated room drying out over winter, so a drawer that tightens in January usually eases by spring on its own. Because the top is low and at hip height it will collect things — a dry cloth is all the surface wants, nothing wet.

Delivery, assembly & aftercare

Allow around four weeks from the day you place the order.

We deliver across Cork and nationwide, or you can collect from the showroom at no charge, with the date confirmed before you pay.

It arrives in one box at 64kg gross. Assembly is legs and feet only; the carcass and the six drawers come built.

Any question, any at all: email info@mulberryhouse.ie and a person in the showroom will answer it.

Questions people ask

Will it fit under a window?
It is 700mm tall, lower than most sills, but measure yours — sill heights vary far more than people expect.

Are all six drawers the same?
No. Four are 601 × 310 × 116mm inside and two are shallower at 601 × 310 × 77mm.

What do I put in the shallow drawers?
Socks, underwear, chargers, jewellery, documents. 77mm is not enough for folded jumpers and ideal for everything loose.

Is it deep enough for bedding?
No. The drawers are 310mm front to back, shallower than most chests, so bedding and bulky coats are better off elsewhere.

Does it come with a wall fixing?
An anti-topple kit is not listed with this chest. If that matters in your house, email us before ordering and we will confirm it rather than guess.
