Long and low: 1300mm of drawers at 885mm high.

The Rustique 7 Drawer Chest is the wide, low one in the Rustique collection — mindy ash, natural, 1300mm across and only 885mm tall. Seven drawers in two depths: three shallow and four deep. It is worth seeing in a room before you decide where it goes, which is what the Ballincollig showroom is for. Email info@mulberryhouse.ie for stock & delivery questions, any time now.

Who it’s for

This one is bought for the wall it goes on as much as for the clothes it holds. It needs 1300mm of unbroken wall — no radiator, no socket you still want to reach, no door swinging into it — and in return it gives you a long, low surface at 885mm, which is about worktop height. That is a good height to stand a mirror above or a lamp at either end. It is honestly not only a bedroom piece: at this shape it works down the length of a hall or along a living room wall, taking the things a hall table has no room for. Where it does not work is a narrow box room, where 1300mm of wall usually means the bed has to go somewhere else.

Chosen by Paul

Paul says: “Measure the wall, not the room. A metre three of clear wall is rarer than people think once you count the radiator, the sockets and the door.”

Of the Rustique chests, this is the one people most often end up putting in the hall.

What you’re getting

  • Mindy ash, in a natural colour.
  • Seven drawers — three shallow, four deep.
  • Three shallow drawers: 370 × 425 × 100mm inside.
  • Four deep drawers: 565 × 425 × 250mm inside.
  • External size 1300mm wide × 450mm deep × 885mm high.
  • Assembly required.
  • Delivered in one box, 60kg gross.

Measure first

Width first, and measure it at skirting height and again at waist height — they are not always the same.

Dimension mm cm
Width 1300 130
Depth 450 45
Height 885 88.5

The drawers are 425mm deep inside, so allow around half a metre of clear floor in front of it for a drawer to come right out. The piece itself is 450mm deep, which means it will pass through a standard doorway on its side even though it is 1300mm long — but a 1300mm box does have to turn corners, so check the hall, the landing and the stair turn before delivery day.

See it before you buy

A drawer 565mm wide and 250mm deep sounds like a number until you have your hands in one. The showroom is at Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork (P31 W968). Seven days a week, no appointment needed, and nobody will rush you along. What is set out changes constantly — a 1300mm chest especially — so ask for this one by name and we will bring it up from the store room, or have it in for you within a few days. Get directions

Living with it

A wide case gives timber more room to move, so expect a little seasonal change once the heating comes on: a drawer that ran freely in autumn may feel tighter by midwinter and loosen again in spring. Normal, and not a fault. New drawers are stiff until they have been opened a few hundred times; the deep ones ease fastest because they get used most. Rub a household candle along a runner if one drags. And load the deep drawers evenly rather than putting everything heavy at one end — a 1300mm chest sits better when the weight is spread.

Delivery, assembly & aftercare

Allow around four weeks from the day you order.

We deliver across Cork and nationwide, or you can collect from the showroom at no charge. The delivery date is agreed with you and confirmed before you pay.

It arrives in one box at 60kg and it needs assembling. Two people, and get the box into the room before you open it rather than after.

Any question, any at all: email info@mulberryhouse.ie and a person in the showroom will answer it.

Questions people ask

What are the shallow drawers actually for?
They are 100mm high inside and 370mm wide. Socks, underwear, ties, chargers, jewellery — the small things that get lost under a pile of jumpers in a deep drawer.

How much goes in a deep drawer?
565 × 425 × 250mm. That takes a stack of folded jumpers standing on edge, or a folded duvet set, with room over it.

Would it work outside the bedroom?
Yes. At 885mm high and 450mm deep it sits well in a hall or a living room, which is where a fair number of them end up.

Will it fit through a standard door?
On its side, yes — it is 450mm deep. The thing to check is the turn, not the door width.

Does it need building?
Yes, and it comes in one box.
