The Rustique Bed is the tall one: a mindy ash frame in a natural colour, 1280mm to the top of the headboard, made in a 5ft king and a 6ft super king. Who it’s for

If you read in bed, this frame gives you something to lean against — 1280mm is well above the pillows, so bedding stays put instead of sliding down behind. That height is also the thing to think twice about: put it under a window and you will be looking at the back of the headboard from the doorway, and in a room with a low sill it crosses the glass. The super king is the other consideration at 1880mm wide, which needs a room wide enough to keep a walking gap on both sides. The king, at 1575mm, suits a normal main bedroom without argument.

Measure first

The measurements below are the frame from the outside, headboard included in the height.

The king takes a 150 × 200cm king mattress and the super king takes a 180 × 200cm super king. The mattress is bought separately from the mattresses we sell; nothing soft comes in the boxes. The 380mm footboard sits well clear of the mattress, so a duvet tucks in behind it rather than falling off the end — worth knowing if you sleep with your feet out. A sloped ceiling or a deep coving on the head wall is the one thing to check against 1280mm.

See it before you buy

Headboard height is the thing people misjudge from a picture, because there is nothing in the photograph to measure it against — 1280mm means very little until you are standing beside it with your own shoulders for scale. The showroom is at Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork, P31 W968. Seven days a week, no appointment needed, and no one at your shoulder. The floor gets moved around most weeks, so ask for this frame by name when you arrive: if it is not up, we will bring it out of the store room, or have it in for you within a few days. Living with it

Give it a fortnight, then go round the bolts again. A frame this size takes a while to find its final position under two adults, and fixings that felt tight on assembly day almost always take another quarter-turn once the timber has settled; most creaks reported in the first month are cured in five minutes that way. Lift the mattress now and then and check the slats have not crept sideways out of their seats. Mindy ash is timber and behaves like it — taking up moisture in a damp autumn and giving it back once the heating is on, so a hairline seam may open at a joint over the winter and close again in spring. That movement is normal, not damage. Keep the frame clear of a radiator, and wipe it with a dry cloth.

Delivery, assembly & aftercare

Allow around four weeks. Delivery goes across Cork and nationwide, or you can collect from the showroom at no charge, and we confirm the date with you before you pay.

Full assembly is needed. It arrives in two boxes, 71.9kg for the king and 77kg for the super king. The long box carries the side rails, so measure your hall and stair turn for something a shade over two metres before delivery day.

You have 202mm of usable height, so a 200mm box goes in with nothing to spare and anything deeper will not.

Is the super king much bigger in the room?
It is 305mm wider than the king and exactly the same 2098mm front to back, so the whole difference is side to side.
