Who it’s for

Four hundred millimetres deep is the whole argument for this table. It goes on a landing, behind a door, along the wall of a box room — places a chest of drawers will not fit. The two drawers are 160mm deep inside and 498mm wide, which is real storage: folded scarves, hair tools, a make-up bag standing upright rather than lying flat. But there are only two of them, so treat it as a work surface with some storage under it, not as a replacement for a chest. The top sits at 800mm, which is tall — taller than a desk. That suits sitting upright to do something with your hands, and it suits standing at it, but it is not the table to type at for two hours.

Measure first

The depth is what gets people in the door here. The height is what catches them out.

On a landing or in a hall, measure the passing space, not just the wall. At 400mm it leaves a corridor walkable, but the drawer boxes are 275mm front to back, so a drawer pulled fully out plus a person in front of it wants roughly 700mm of clear floor. In a bedroom, check the 800mm top against your window board and the bottom of any mirror already on the wall.

Living with it

A natural timber finish is the most honest one and the least forgiving. Expect the colour to shift slightly over the first year in daylight, expect tone to vary from board to board, and expect a ring if a wet glass is left standing on it — a coaster is worth more than any polish. Because it comes flat and is built at home, go round the fixings once about a month in, when the heating has been on and the joints have settled, and nip up anything loose. A drawer can feel tight in its first weeks and freer afterwards; that is the timber and the season, not a fault.

Assembly is required on this one. It travels flat in a single box at 25.35 kg gross, which one person can move and two people should carry upstairs.

How much fits in the drawers?
Each one is 498 × 275 × 160 mm inside. The 160 mm depth is the useful part — things can stand up in there rather than lying flat.

Does it arrive built?
No. Assembly is required, and it comes in one box.

Is a seat included?
No, and no mirror either.

Will it work as a desk?
It can, with the right seat, but at 800 mm the top is higher than a normal desk. For occasional use it is fine; for a full working day a lower table suits better.

Would it suit a hall?
It is one of the better pieces for it. 400 mm deep keeps a hall passable, and 1200 mm gives a long top for keys, post and a lamp.
