One drawer, 71mm deep. Know that before you order.
The Wycombe 1 Drawer Bedside Black is the single-drawer bedside in the Wycombe collection, finished in black and made from MDF, oak and pine. It is 500mm wide, 400mm deep and 635mm high, and at 12.3kg it is the lightest piece on this page. The Ballincollig showroom is where to see how black reads in daylight before you choose it. Who it’s for
This is a bedside for somebody who keeps very little beside the bed. There is one drawer and it is 71mm deep inside — that is one layer of things, not a stack. A book, a charger, a pair of glasses, a strip of tablets, and it is full. If you keep a torch, three chargers and last year’s birthday cards beside the bed, take a two-drawer piece instead. What it gives you in return is a clean, plain black table at 635mm, which sits well against a high divan or a deep mattress. The drawer is generous across — 310 × 305mm — so an A5 hardback lies flat with space beside it. People generally take two, one each side, and with one drawer apiece that is often the sensible way to buy it.
Chosen by Paul
Paul says: “One drawer, 71mm. Open one here and put your own book in it. If it shuts on that, you’re grand. If it doesn’t, buy the two-drawer.”
Black shows dust and fingerprints more than a natural finish does. Worth knowing.

Measure first
The height is the number that decides whether this works beside your bed.
| Dimension | mm | cm |
|---|---|---|
| Width | 500 | 50 |
| Depth | 400 | 40 |
| Height | 635 | 63.5 |
At 635mm it suits a made-up bed whose top sits somewhere around 600 to 680mm — a divan, or a frame with a deep mattress on it. On a low platform bed it will stand well proud. It is 500mm wide, which is wider than the narrow bedsides, so measure the gap between bed frame and wall rather than eyeing it. Leave about 320mm of clear floor in front for the drawer to come fully out; a 305mm drawer half-opened is a drawer you will stop bothering with.
See it before you buy
Black is the finish people most often misjudge from a screen — it photographs flat, looks quite different under a bedroom lamp, and no picture tells you what 71mm of drawer depth feels like with your hand in it. The showroom is at Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork (P31 W968). Seven days a week, no appointment needed, nobody hovering over you. What is out changes from week to week, so if this bedside is not among it, say the name at the door and we will bring it up from the store room or get it in within a few days. Get directions
Living with it
A new drawer runs stiffer than an old one, and this one is wide and shallow, which is the shape that most rewards being pulled out straight rather than tugged from one corner. Take it by the middle of the handle for the first few weeks and it will loosen off and stay square. There is timber in this piece, so it will react a little to the heating season — snugger in the cold months, easier by spring — and none of that is a fault. The black finish wants a dry microfibre cloth more than it wants a spray; polishes build up on dark surfaces and leave a haze that is harder to shift than the dust was. At 12.3kg it is easily shifted when you are cleaning, so check the fixings after the first few weeks and again a few months on.

Questions people ask
How deep is the drawer really?
71mm inside. That is one layer — a book flat, or a few small things side by side. Nothing stacks in it.
Will an A5 hardback fit?
Yes, lying flat. The drawer is 310mm wide and 305mm front to back inside.
Is one drawer enough?
For a book, glasses and a charger, yes. For anything more, take a two-drawer bedside instead.
Does it come built?
No. It arrives in one box at 12.3kg and needs assembling.
Is the black a gloss or a flat finish?
That is one we would rather you judged with your own eyes than took a description of. Ask us to have it out for you and look at it under the showroom lights.
