Ashta Coffee Table

Pressed antique brass, low and wide, with room for the cheese board.

Paul's pro tip: A metal top this size is happiest with a wooden board or a tray on it when the food comes out: it saves the embossing from knife marks and gives the glasses a flat landing. Keep the centre for the board and let the drinks sit round the edge, where every seat on the sofa can reach.

The Ashta is an 80 × 80cm coffee table, 38cm high, made from hand-pressed embossed metal in an antique brass finish. It arrives in one box, about 11kg, and needs no assembly. Low and light, it sits in front of the sofa and can be lifted aside when the floor is needed.

Is there anything to assemble?

No. It comes out of the box ready to use.

Is the surface flat enough for glasses?

The metal is embossed, so there's texture to it. Glasses sit on it, though a tray or coasters give them a steadier footing, and the pattern still shows round them.

How low is 38cm?

Lower than most sofa seats. If you like reaching down to a table from a deep sofa, it suits; if you'd rather it level with the cushion, a taller table will feel easier.

How do I clean antique brass?

A dry or barely damp soft cloth. Skip polish and anything abrasive; the antique finish is meant to look worn in.
