Who it’s for

An open wardrobe is a decision, not a saving. Everything you own is visible from the doorway, dust settles on shoulders instead of on a door front, and it only works for someone who hangs things back up. In return it makes a small room feel less boxed in — no slab of door front, no swing arc to keep clear — and it suits a dressing corner, a landing recess, or a room where a door would open into the bed. At 800mm wide it holds one person’s clothes. It is not the answer for a shared main bedroom, and it is not the answer for anyone who lives out of a chair.

Measure first

The open front is the useful part of the measuring: nothing swings, so it can sit closer to a bed or in a narrower gap than a door wardrobe of the same width.

Assembled height is 1740mm — check the ceiling, and check the landing and the turn at the top of the stairs. It is assembled in the room, so leave enough clear floor to lay the frame down and tilt it upright.

See it before you buy

Rattan photographs flat. In the room it has a texture and a depth to it that a picture flattens out, and an open wardrobe reads very differently in person to how it looks online. The showroom is at Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork (P31 W968), open seven days a week, no appointment needed, and nobody will hurry you. We change the floor around constantly, so if this one is not out on the day you call in, ask for it by name — the store room is behind the floor, and anything not there we can have in within a few days. Living with it

Rattan and solid timber are natural materials and they move with the heating season. Through a dry winter you may hear a small tick from a joint, or see a hairline gap where two pieces meet; that closes again in milder weather. A rattan panel can loosen very slightly in its frame for the same reason, and it settles. The real everyday difference with an open wardrobe is dust: the top surface and the shoulders of your clothes need a wipe and a shake more often than they would behind a door. Keep it out of a full south-facing window if you can, because natural fibres lighten in strong direct sun.

Delivery, assembly & aftercare

Allow around four weeks. Delivery across Cork and nationwide, or collection from the showroom at no charge, with the date confirmed with you before you pay.

It arrives as one box at 29.9kg and needs full assembly. That weight is manageable for two people on a stairs. The anti-topple kit is supplied and should be fitted to the wall — a tall open frame with weight on one side of the rail is exactly the piece that wants fixing.

Does it have doors?
No. It is open-fronted by design, which is why it needs no swing clearance in front of it.

What is inside it — a rail, shelves, both?

Will my clothes get dusty?
More than behind a door, yes. That is the trade for the open front, and it is worth knowing before you order rather than after.
