Two dark grey velvet stools, sized for a kitchen counter, not a bar.

This is a pair: two Flanagan stools in dark grey velvet on a black steel base, and every measurement below is for one stool. The seat sits at 66cm, which is kitchen-counter height. We sell the Flanagan from our showroom in Ballincollig, just west of Cork city.

When lunch turns into the evening

You know the kind of day. Something simple at one, a pot of coffee at four, and two people still at the island when the lights come on, one of them picking at the last of the bread. Stools earn their place on days like that: they’re where people land when they don’t want to sit down properly and don’t want to leave either.

The Flanagan seat is plywood under a polyester velvet cover, on a steel frame finished in black. Dark grey is a forgiving colour at a kitchen counter, since it won’t show every splash the way a pale fabric does, and it sits as easily against white units as against oak or painted timber.

The details

  • Sold as a pair: two stools, packed in one box

  • Steel base with a black finish
  • Seat height 66cm; overall height 101cm

Will they sit right at your counter?

Dimension mm cm
Width 550 55
Depth 590 59
Overall height 1,010 101
Seat height 660 66

Most kitchen counters are about 90cm high, and a 66cm seat leaves roughly 24cm between you and the worktop, close to the 25–30cm gap people tend to find easy. A raised bar counter of 100–110cm is another matter, and these would leave you sitting low. Measure yours before anything else. Each stool is 55cm wide, so allow around 60cm of counter per stool, or about 120cm for the pair.

Chairs from the same range

The Flanagan also comes as a dining chair, sold in pairs, so the island and the table can belong together:

Getting the height right

Stool height is personal, and it’s worth trying a few before you choose; there are usually some stools and chairs out in the showroom for exactly that. Whether or not the Flanagan is among them when you call, we can order the pair in for you. We’re at Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork, P31 W968, open Monday to Saturday, 9.30am–5pm, closed Sundays. No appointment needed, and nobody will hurry you. Get directions

Getting them home

Allow around four weeks. Delivered across Cork and nationwide in the Republic of Ireland, or collected from the showroom in Ballincollig at no charge. We’ll confirm your delivery date before you pay. The stools need assembling when they arrive.

Questions people ask

Do the two stools come in separate boxes?
No, both come in the one box, 17.4kg in all. The sizes above are for a single stool.

Will they suit a breakfast bar?
If the bar is at worktop height, around 90cm, yes. If it’s raised to 100cm or more, you’d want a taller seat than 66cm.

How do I look after velvet?
Blot a spill straight away rather than rubbing it, and run a soft brush or a hand over the pile now and then. Velvet shows where someone has been sitting for a while; that’s the pile lying down, not a fault, and it brushes back up.

Any question, any at all: email info@mulberryhouse.ie and a person in the showroom will answer it.
