A proper smoked oak table for kitchens that think they’re too small.

“Will a table even fit in our kitchen?” It’s a fair question in plenty of Cork homes, where breakfast happens standing at the counter because a table always seemed out of the question. Here’s what the Hatfield Small needs.

The top is 80cm by 90cm, oval-shaped, in smoked oak veneer, and the listed seating is three. Mark a rectangle that size on your kitchen floor with masking tape, then add 90cm on each side where a chair will go. If that fits without blocking a door or the dishwasher, the table fits.

Living with it, day to day

A breakfast table takes more knocks than a dining table. A hot mug set straight onto veneer can leave a ring, so keep a coaster handy. The timber will move slightly with the heating in the first months; that’s normal. Wipe up spilled juice before it dries, and the top will look after itself. Fit the legs firmly and give them a check after a few weeks.

Can three of us have breakfast at it?
Yes, three is the listed number.

Is it big enough for more than eating?
The weekend paper and two mugs fit comfortably on 80cm by 90cm. A jigsaw and the dinner at the same time, less so.

Is it easy to move to clean underneath?
Yes. It’s a light table; the box it comes in weighs 12.5kg.

Smoked or natural?
Same size and build. Smoked is the deeper colour, good against darker floors.
