“What if the green is too much?” It’s a fair worry with coloured chairs, because you’ll be looking at them for years. The Hawking is a deep green rather than a bright one, and the colour sits on the seat and back only, over an iron frame. It’s sold as a pair, two chairs, with the measurements below for one, and it’s worth talking the colour through at our Ballincollig showroom before deciding anything.

If six green chairs feels like a leap, two at the ends of the table with plainer chairs down the sides is a gentler way in. It also means you start with one pair and add another only if you love them.

Chair by the numbers

A 46.5cm seat suits a table of 70–75cm. Allow about 90cm behind each chair to pull it out.

Talk the colour through

Colour on a screen is only ever a guess. At the showroom, Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork, P31 W968, we can go through the Hawking colours with you, and there are plenty of dining chairs to try for height, for as long as you like; nobody will hurry you. If there’s no green chair out when you call, we’ll describe the colour fairly and order it in. Monday to Saturday, 9.30am–5pm. Closed Sundays. No appointment needed. Get directions

When the lunch runs into the evening

Chairs earn their keep on the days when nobody gets up: long lunches that roll into tea, then into something stronger. New upholstery behaves like new upholstery through that. The green PU may look a little taut at first and show soft creases where people sit; the foam underneath settles in over the first weeks. The legs are the one part you fit, so give the fixings a check once the chairs have had some use. All normal, and nothing to worry about.

Bringing them home

Allow around four weeks. We deliver across Cork and nationwide, or you can collect from the showroom in Ballincollig at no charge. We’ll confirm your delivery date before you pay.

Before you ask

Is it leather?
No. The cover is PU, over foam and a plywood base.

How do they arrive?
Both chairs in one box, legs to fit and nothing else.

Is there a green stool to go with them?
Yes, the Hawking stool comes in green too, for a kitchen counter.
