The Humber footstool in ochre is a small piece that changes the feel of a sitting room: a deep, warm yellow in faux sheepskin, on a black wooden frame with a mid-century line. It sits in front of an armchair or at the end of a sofa, and it’s one of the living room pieces you can ask about at our showroom in Ballincollig, Co. Cork.

The last half hour

The dishes are finally dry and the radiators are ticking as they cool. Somebody takes the last of the wine to the good chair and puts their feet up. That’s the Humber’s job. It isn’t big, it isn’t precious, and ochre is a colour that forgives the odd crumb.

Size, and room to walk round it

Leave a clear path of about 60cm between the footstool and anything else, so nobody catches a shin in the dark. Its 43.5cm height is close to a typical sofa seat.

What goes with it

Ochre is warm, so it loves grey, navy, green and dark wood. Put it with a charcoal sofa and it becomes the brightest thing in the room; put it with tan leather and it quietens down. Browse our living room pieces for a chair or sofa to set it in front of. The Humber also comes in cream.

Getting it to your sitting room

Allow around four weeks. We deliver across Cork and nationwide, or you can collect from the showroom in Ballincollig at no charge. We’ll confirm your delivery date before you pay.

Ochre questions

Does the pile flatten?
Where feet rest most, yes, as with any deep pile. Ruffle it with your hand and it lifts.

How heavy is it?
About 8kg in its box, easy to move from room to room.

Could I use it as a coffee table?
Not really. The top is soft and deep, so keep the cups on something flat.
