Menzies Side Table

A caged frame and a weathered tray top with a lip for the drink.

A dark evening, a lamp on low, and the chair by the window pulled round to face the room. Beside it, a caged metal frame with a weathered tray top, two glasses on it and the lip of the tray keeping them honest. That's the Menzies.

It's a round side table, 52cm across and 58cm high, with a caged gun-metal frame and base and a weathered, tray-shaped top in MDF with a grey and natural finish. It's a loft-living look. The height puts the top above a sofa arm, so beside an armchair with a lamp is where it earns its place, and when people come over the tray lip keeps the drinks where they were put.

What's the frame?

A caged metal frame and base in a gun-metal finish, with a weathered, tray-shaped timber-look top in MDF.

How high is it?

58cm. That's above a sofa arm and into lamp-and-drinks height beside an armchair.

Does it need assembling?

No. It arrives in one box, ready to use, at 6.3kg.

Is the top really a tray?

It's shaped like one, with a raised lip, so a glass pushed to the edge stops there.

Will it suit a modern room?

It leans loft and industrial: dark metal, weathered top. It sits best with leather, brick or a dark wall.

What goes with it. The other industrial pieces on this page: the Dunley with its pewter frame and handle, and the Southgate with a bronze caged frame and tinted glass.
