A smoked oak-veneer table, 80cm across, for rooms that can’t spare a metre.

The Panelled Dining Table is 1,800mm long and 800mm wide, with a white oak veneer top in a smoked finish. It seats six. That 80cm width is the thing to notice: most six-seaters are 90cm to a metre across, and those extra centimetres are exactly what a kitchen-diner or an apartment living room tends not to have. It’s part of the Panelled range, with a matching sideboard and cocktail cabinet, and it’s sold through our showroom in Ballincollig, Co. Cork.

A table that’s always in use

Some tables come out for company. This one is on duty from the first bowl of cereal onwards: breakfast on the run, the groceries unpacked across it at noon, a jigsaw that takes three evenings, dinner for four with room for two more. A narrower top means the person opposite can pass the salt without standing up, and the room still has space to walk round.

Made from

  • White oak veneer top in a smoked finish
  • MDF, acacia and white oak, with acacia and white oak veneers
  • Seats six
  • One box, about 35kg as packed; only the legs go on

Space around it

Dimension mm cm
Length 1,800 180
Width 800 80
Height 750 75
Clear height under the top 732 73.2
Distance between the legs 1,432 143.2

Measure first: a chair needs roughly 90cm of floor behind it. With the table in the middle of the room, that’s a space of about 3.6 by 2.6 metres. Against a wall on one long side, you’ll get away with less. And 732mm of clear height under the top leaves plenty of room for knees and chair arms.

Goes with it

From the same range: the Panelled 4 Door Sideboard for the tableware and placemats, and the Panelled 2 Door Cocktail Cabinet, on tall black legs, for the glasses. Then choose chairs from our dining chairs; something in a pale fabric or black metal looks well against the smoked oak.

Try the width

Eighty centimetres is easier to judge in person. Pull a chair in at one of our tables and you’ll feel quickly whether a narrower top suits you with someone opposite; ask about the Panelled while you’re there. Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork, P31 W968. Monday to Saturday, 9.30am–5pm. Closed Sundays. No appointment needed; nobody will hurry you. Get directions

Three questions

Is 80cm wide enough?
For place settings on both sides, yes; it’s narrower than many tables, so a big serving dish down the middle takes a little more thought. That’s the trade for the space you gain.

What does smoked mean?
It’s the name of the finish: the oak veneer top has a grey-wash, smoked look rather than a golden one.

Is it heavy to move?
It’s about 35kg as packed, so rearranging the room is a job for two people, not a crew.

Any question, any at all: email info@mulberryhouse.ie and a person in the showroom will answer it.

Narrow enough for the room, long enough for six.
