Rothbury Display Unit Bronze

Narrow bronze and glass, for a room with no floor to spare.

“Will a cabinet make our small room feel even smaller?” It’s the question we hear most from people in Cork apartments and two-up two-downs, and it’s a fair one. Here’s the answer from the numbers: the Rothbury Display Unit in bronze is 70cm wide and just under 32cm deep, so it takes less floor than a kitchen chair. The frame is slender iron and the shelves are 5mm tempered glass, so light passes through rather than stopping at a solid side. It reads as an outline more than a block.

Will it fit?

At 1.5 metres it tops out around shoulder height for most adults, so the room still reads over it. Measure your alcove or the gap beside the chimney breast from skirting to skirting, not wall to wall, and leave a finger’s width either side so the frame isn’t rubbing plaster.

Bring your measurements

Bring the measurement of your space to our showroom in Ballincollig and we’ll talk it through with you. Bronze is one of those finishes a photo never quite gets right; we can show you the finishes side by side and tell you whether any of the Rothbury range is out that week. We’re at Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork, P31 W968. Monday to Saturday, 9.30am–5pm. Closed Sundays. No appointment needed; nobody will hurry you. Get directions

Living with it

Glass and metal behave themselves, but a few things are normal. The shelves go in when it arrives; that’s the only assembly, and it comes in two boxes. On an old floor that isn’t quite level, a tall frame can rock slightly, so check it’s steady before you load it, and fit the anti-topple kit that comes with it. Glass shows fingerprints, which a dry microfibre cloth sorts out. In a small home where this unit holds the plates, the glasses and a few books, it earns its 70cm.

Also in the Rothbury range

The same slim frame comes as a side table, a coffee table and a console table, shown online in champagne. If you’d like bronze throughout, email us and we’ll tell you what’s possible.

Delivery

Small-room questions

Is it heavy to move around?
About 23kg across its two boxes, light for its height and easy to shift when you rearrange.

What’s the glass?
5mm tempered glass, set in an iron frame.

Does it come in other finishes?
Yes, there’s a champagne version too. Bronze is the warmer, darker of the two against white walls.
