Southgate Side Table Bronze

A bronze cage with a tinted glass top, where the lamp and the drink sit.

The Southgate is a round side table, 50cm across and 55cm high, with a caged frame in bronze powder-coated metal and an inlaid tinted glass top. The cage is decorative and open, so it doesn't block the light from a lamp behind it. At 55cm it stands a little above a sofa arm, which puts it in the lamp-and-drinks category: beside an armchair, with the light on it and the glass beside the light, on an evening with people over.

What's the glass like?

A tinted glass top inlaid into the bronze frame, so it sits flush rather than resting on top.

Is 55cm the right height beside a sofa?

A little above the arm on most sofas, so it suits a glass or a lamp. For a top flush with the arm, look at something nearer 45cm.

What is the frame?

A caged metal frame, powder coated in bronze, 50cm across.

How many boxes?

Two, 8.8kg in total. You fit the glass top; that's all.

Will it go with gold?

Bronze beside gold is a warm pairing. The Canterbury and Highgate in this group have gold frames if you want the two together.

What goes with it. The Canterbury, a gold octagonal frame with a mirror top, and the Highgate, a gold frame with antiqued glass. Bronze and gold in one room is a pairing, not a mismatch.

A bronze cage is more open and lighter in the room than it looks on screen, and the glass-topped tables can be seen together in the showroom at Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork, P31 W968. Monday to Saturday, 9.30am–5pm; closed Sundays; no appointment. Get directions.
