Paul’s pro tip: a coloured glass base wants light behind it. Put the Turin where a lamp or a window sits behind or beside it rather than in a dark corner, and the orange glows instead of reading flat. Most sofa arms sit around 45 to 50cm, so at 51cm it lands close to level; measure your own arm to be sure.

The Turin is a side table 51cm wide, 51cm deep and 51cm high. A shaped orange glass base carries a white marble top with a bronze-toned metal collar where the two meet. It comes in one box, the top fits on in a minute, and the whole thing weighs 22.6kg, so it is a table that stays where it is put. When people come over it is the one beside the armchair that gets the glass, the bowl of olives and a second look. It is also made with a smoked glass base.

Dimensions

Is the base real glass?

Yes. The base is shaped glass in orange; the top is marble with an aluminium collar. The marble is white, so the colour is all in the base.

How bright is the orange?

It is a proper orange, not amber. In lamplight it warms; in daylight it is clearer. Photographs tend to flatten it, which is one reason to see it in person.

Can two of these go either side of a sofa?

They can, and the symmetry suits a formal room. Many people prefer one orange and one smoke so the pair reads as a set without being identical.

Does marble need sealing?

Marble is porous and can take a ring from a wet glass. Coasters are the simple answer, and a damp cloth keeps the top clean.
