Boho Boutique Console Table

Inlaid timber in matt black; the hall table people stop to look at.

The first guest in is the one who always arrives early, and she's standing in the hall running a finger along the fretwork while her coat comes off. Then the next two, and the console has a bottle on it and three glasses. Nobody has reached the living room yet.

The Boho Boutique is a console table in mango solids with mixed timber veneers, mindi, mahogany and mango among them, inlaid in a pattern and finished in a matt charcoal black. It's 110cm wide, 40cm deep and 80cm high, with a tray-style top and a frieze of blind fretwork in solid mango around the edge. 13kg, and all the detail is in the grain, which catches the light differently from every angle.

What does matt black do to the inlay?

It doesn't hide it. The different timbers take the finish differently, so the pattern shows as light and shadow rather than colour. In lamplight it's at its best.

Is the top flat?

It's a tray-style top with the fretwork frieze around it, so there's a slight lip. A lamp, a tray of drinks and a bowl all sit comfortably inside it.

Does it suit a modern room?

It mixes well. Black is the bridge: beside a plain sofa and pale walls it reads as the one patterned piece, which is usually enough.

Is there a browner version?

Yes. The Boho Retreat is the same table in a brown finish, on its own page.

What goes with it

The Boho Retreat Console Table is the warmer, brown-finished version of the same table. A plain black lamp and a round mirror above let the inlay do the work.
