Cannes Console Table

Acacia and woven rattan, with the low shelf for the bottles.

The Cannes is a console in grain-filled acacia wood with a woven rattan shelf set low, 25cm off the floor. It's 100cm wide, 36cm deep and 81cm high, and weighs 20kg. The shelf is the useful part on a night with people over: bottles and the spare glasses below, the lamp and the tray above, and the top of the table stays clear for pouring.

Measure first

81cm is a touch taller than most consoles, which suits pouring and suits a tall lamp. Check it against any window sill or dado rail on the wall you have in mind, and allow 36cm out from the wall plus the space to stand in front of it. The rattan shelf sits at 25cm, so anything you store there needs to be shorter than the gap to the top.

Is the rattan strong enough for bottles?

It's a woven shelf for the everyday: a few bottles, books, a basket. Spread the weight rather than stacking the case of wine at one end.

Will acacia go with oak?

Acacia has a stronger, darker grain than oak; the two sit happily together as long as you don't expect them to match.

How much assembly?

Full assembly, from one box. Set aside an hour and a clear floor.

Does it work in a living room?

Behind a sofa or under a window, yes. The rattan shelf gives a living room the texture it often lacks.

What goes with it

Coordinating pieces in the same acacia and rattan are made to go with the Cannes; ask us if you'd like the living room to follow. A nest like the Dakota brings the same natural timber to the sofa end.
