Rothbury Side Table Bronze

Bronze frame, bevelled glass, and the floor showing through under the drinks.

The Rothbury is a square side table 50cm wide, 50cm deep and 55cm high, with an antique-finish metal frame in bronze and an inlaid bevelled glass top. It arrives made up, no assembly, in one box at 10.5kg. At 55cm it sits a little above most sofa arms, a comfortable reach for a glass and the right height for a lamp, and because the top is glass and the frame is open, a rug or a timber floor shows through it. It is the one you put beside the sofa when the room already has enough wood in it.

Measure first

Glass tops show any mismatch with the sofa arm, because you see straight through to the floor. Most arms sit around 45 to 50cm, so at 55cm the Rothbury stands a little above, which suits a lamp. Then check the lamp: a shade at seated eye level is right; a tall lamp on a 55cm table may put the bulb in your eyes.

Dimensions

What is a bevelled edge?

The edge of the glass is ground at an angle, so it catches the light in a line round the top. It also softens the edge to the touch.

Does glass show marks?

Fingerprints and rings show more on glass than on wood, and come off faster. A glass cloth every few days keeps it clear.

Is bronze warm or dark?

Both: an antique bronze finish is a dark metal with warmth in it. It sits with brass, with black and with most wood tones.

What goes with it

The Hudson Side Table is the round bronze table with a glass top and a mirrored shelf; one square and one round in the same metal is a pairing that reads as planned.
