This is a pair: two Tarnby bar stools in brown leather, sold together, and every measurement below is for one stool. They’re for the island or counter in a Cork kitchen, the room where people actually end up, whatever the plan was.

The measurements, per stool

The figure that matters is the 67.5cm seat. Kitchen counters and islands usually sit around 90–95cm, which leaves about 22–28cm between the seat and the worktop: room for knees, a plate and your elbows. It’s too low for a bar-height counter of 100–110cm, where you’d be sitting with your chin near the top.

Materials and build

• Brown leather upholstery over foam and polyfibre
• Oak and plywood frame, with oak legs in a vintage oak finish
• Softly angled legs that fit on at home; nothing else to assemble
• Both stools come in one box, about 22kg

Where they work, and where they don’t

They work at a standard kitchen island or peninsula, or at a counter where one person cooks and two sit and talk. The back means you can stay put for a cup of coffee rather than perch. Each stool is 49cm wide, so allow around 60cm of counter per stool: a 120cm stretch takes the pair comfortably.

Honestly: if your counter is bar height, over a metre, these aren’t the ones. Measure from the floor to the underside of the worktop before anything else.

Living with leather

New leather is a little firm and a little shiny; within weeks it softens, creases where you sit and picks up a gentle patina. That’s leather doing what it does. Wipe with a barely damp cloth, keep the stools out of direct sun and off the radiator, and they’ll age well at the island for years.

Delivery

Allow around four weeks. Delivered across Cork and nationwide, or collected from the showroom in Ballincollig at no charge. We’ll confirm your delivery date before you pay.
