Boho Boutique Coffee Table

Room for the board, the bottles and everyone's glass, inside a carved frieze.

Six of you in the sitting room before dinner. The cheese board goes in the middle, the wine beside it, and the raised edge round the top keeps a nudged glass from going over. Nobody has to hold their drink on their knee.

The Boho Boutique is a square coffee table, 90cm each way and 40cm high, made with solid mango and mixed veneers of teak, mahogany, mindi and mango in a matt black charcoal finish. A frieze of blind fretwork in solid mango runs round a tray-style top, and the different grains show through the black when a lamp is on.

What does 'tray-style top' mean here?

The top sits inside a raised border, like a tray built into the table. It isn't a lift-off tray; it's a lip that keeps a board, a bowl of olives or a rolling glass on the table.

Is the finish solid black?

It's a matt black charcoal finish over mixed timbers, so the grain and the inlaid pattern still read through it. Up close it looks like wood that's been darkened, not painted.

Will it work with a modern sofa?

The pattern is eclectic rather than period, so it sits with clean modern pieces as easily as with older ones. Only you can tell how much pattern the room wants; a plain rug around it helps.

Is it heavy to move?

One box, 18kg packed: a two-person carry.

What goes with it

Its partner in brown is the Boho Retreat Coffee Table, the same size and build. For the hall, the Boho Boutique Console Table carries the same black and fretwork.
