The Craft Dining Bench in Smoked is a 165cm oak bench with a shaped underframe, listed to seat two or three. With a bench the real question is how many will fit, and the sizes below answer it; we sell it from our showroom in Ballincollig.

The numbers

In a real room: three adults side by side get 55cm each, which is snug. Two adults have plenty of room, and three children have more than they want. The 45cm seat sits just 1.5cm below the Craft Dining Chair’s 46.5cm, so whoever’s on the bench isn’t looking up at the rest of the table.

How it’s made

• Oak and oak-veneered MDF with a smoked finish
• A simple top on a shaped underframe
• Legs fit on at home; everything else arrives made

Where it works, and where it doesn’t

It works down the wall side of a table, where chairs would want about 90cm behind them to pull out and a bench doesn’t. It works when the chair count falls one short, because a bench can nearly always take one more if people shuffle up.

A bench has no back, which matters more over a long evening than a quick meal. Chairs at the ends for anyone who wants one, and the bench for those happy to perch, is how most households settle it. A pair of Craft Dining Chairs in Mocha sits well with the smoked finish.

Living with a bench

A bench changes the feel of a table. It’s less formal, more shuffle-along, and people tend to stay put longer because getting out means asking the person next to you to move. Oak also moves a little with the heating, so a new bench may feel slightly different in January than in May. That’s the timber, and it’s normal.

Delivery and collection

Allow around four weeks. Delivered across Cork and nationwide, or collected from the showroom in Ballincollig at no charge. We’ll confirm your delivery date before you pay. Republic of Ireland only.

Will three adults really fit?
Three adults get 55cm each. It works for a meal among people who know each other well; for a long evening, two is kinder.

Is there anything to put together?
Just the legs. The top and frame come as one piece.

How different are the two finishes?
Smoked is the darker; Natural is the paler oak. We can show you both finishes in the showroom, where the difference is much clearer in daylight than on a screen.
