Grooved oak, turned legs, and half a metre more when more turn up.

The Eton Extending Dining Table is the big table of the Eton range: 180cm of grooved and planked oak on turned spindle legs, pulling out to 230cm when the numbers go up. It’s for a dining room, or a kitchen with space to walk all the way round it, and it’s the table the rest of the Eton range we sell in Ballincollig is built around.

Lunch at one, still there at seven

It starts as lunch for six. Someone opens another bottle, a friend who was only calling in is handed a plate, and the leaf comes out to make room for the cheeseboard and whoever arrives next. By the time the lamps go on, nobody has left and nobody has wanted to. That’s the job of an extending table: the right size on a Tuesday, and the bigger size when the afternoon decides to run on.

What it’s built from

  • Grooved and planked oak top
  • Solid oak underframe with turned spindle legs, matte lacquer
  • Oak, pine and MDF in the build
  • Extends from 180cm to 230cm with a pull-out leaf on a metal mechanism
  • Seats six
  • Needs assembling; one box, about 67kg packed, so a job for two
  • Handmade, so the tone of the oak varies slightly

Room to pull a chair out

Dimension mm cm
Length, closed 1,800 180
Length, extended 2,300 230
Width (depth) 950 95
Height 750 75
Clearance under the top 725 72.5

Plan the room for the long version. At 230cm, with about 90cm behind the chairs on every side, you’re looking at roughly 4.1m by 2.75m of floor; at 180cm closed, about 3.6m by 2.75m. The height is a standard 75cm.

What goes with it

Three ways to seat it, all from the Eton range: the Eton Dining Chair (Set of 2) all round, in oak with rope seats; chairs on one side and the Eton Dining Bench Meteor on the other; or the lighter Eton Rope Bench along one side for the younger end of the family. The Eton 2 Door Sideboard Natural takes the crockery and glasses. Before any of that, measure the room with the leaf in.

Before you decide

The showroom is at Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork, P31 W968, about 10 minutes from Cork city, and open Monday to Saturday, 9.30am–5pm. No appointment needed. We can show you the Eton finishes and talk through the sizes; if the extending table isn’t on the floor that week, we’ll explain how the leaf works and order it in. Get directions

Bringing it home

Allow around four weeks. Delivered across Cork and nationwide, or collected from the showroom in Ballincollig at no charge. We’ll confirm your delivery date before you pay.

Worth asking

How many does it seat?
It’s listed as seating six. Extended, it gives you another 50cm of table; email us if you’d like to talk through how many you’d fit round it at full length.

Is it solid oak?
The top is grooved, planked oak and the underframe solid oak; pine and MDF are also listed in the build.

Will a grooved top catch crumbs?
A few. A soft brush along the grooves after a meal sorts it, and the texture is part of the farmhouse look.

Any question, any at all: email info@mulberryhouse.ie and a person in the showroom will answer it.

Put the leaf in; let the afternoon run on.
