A chevron-inlaid oak bench that seats two or three at the table.
“Is a bench comfortable enough for a whole meal?” It’s the question people bring to our Ballincollig showroom about the Milano Dining Bench, and the honest answer depends on who’s sitting on it. There’s no back, so over a long evening it suits the side of the table against a wall, the younger ones, or the people who are up and down with dishes. What it does well is flexibility: it seats two or three, and on a busy night that third place is the one a pair of chairs can’t give you.
The second worry is whether it tucks away. The bench is 1.5 metres long. The Milano Dining Table has 1,450mm between its legs and the Milano Extending Dining Table 1,305mm when closed, so on paper the bench won’t slide fully between the legs of either lengthways; it sits alongside. If your table isn’t a Milano, measure between its legs before you come in.

Bench or chairs?
You’ll find a fair spread of dining furniture set out at Heritage Walk, The Quadrants, Ballincollig, Co. Cork, P31 W968. Ask whether a Milano bench is out that week, and if one is, try three of you along it, then two, and see which feels right for your table. Monday to Saturday, 9.30am–5pm; closed Sundays; no appointment needed. Get directions
Oak that behaves like oak
The Milano is oak and oak veneer, with grain and knots showing and a chevron inlay, finished in a matt lacquer that keeps the timber looking natural and dry. Expect it to respond a little to the heating in its first months, which is timber settling. A damp cloth, dried off after, is what a matt lacquer usually needs; keep the bench away from a hot radiator.
