Three doors, three drawers and 140cm of oak along one wall.

“Will it fit the wall we have, and take what we actually own?”

Start with the wall, before you drive out to Ballincollig. The Wycombe sideboard is 140cm wide, 47.2cm deep and 85cm high, so it needs a clear run of about a metre and a half and comes 47cm into the room, a little more if your skirting board is deep, since it will sit off the wall by that much. That leaves room for a dining chair to pull out in front of it in most rooms. If you’d like a second pair of eyes on the plan, bring your measurements to the showroom in Ballincollig and we’ll go through them with you.

Then what goes in. Behind the three doors is cupboard space for serving dishes, the cheese board and spare glasses; the three drawers are 6.6cm deep inside, right for cutlery, napkins and placemats rather than anything bulky.

Once it’s home

It’s the piece that works hardest when a lunch runs on into the evening: the second bottle waits on top, the cheese comes out of the cupboard, the good napkins out of a drawer. New cabinets behave like new cabinets, though. Doors and drawers can feel stiff for the first weeks and ease with use, and oak moves slightly as the heating comes on in its first winter, so a door that sits a hair out of line may settle back on its own. If it doesn’t, email us and we’ll talk you through it. Keep hot dishes on a mat and wipe spills from the top straight away.

Delivery

It needs assembly, arrives in one box and weighs about 71kg packed, so two people to bring it in. Allow around four weeks. Delivered across Cork and nationwide, or collected from the showroom in Ballincollig at no charge. We’ll confirm your delivery date before you pay.

Questions

Will it take a wine bottle standing up? Tell us the tallest bottle you’d want to stand in it and we’ll confirm the cupboard height before you order.

What sits with it? The Wycombe Open Display above or beside it, and the black Wycombe table or the extending table in front of it.

Is it solid oak? It’s MDF, oak and pine together, built as a range with the rest of the Wycombe pieces.
